history
罗宋 'Luosong' is an old Chinese transliteration of 'Russian'. Borscht came to China with White Russian émigrés who fled to Shanghai and Harbin after 1917; the Shanghai version drops beetroot for tomato paste and adds beef and potato, creating a distinct local classic.

In Hong Kong and Shanghai 罗宋汤 is a standard item on 西餐 (Western-food) menus, often served as the soup course of a 商务套餐.
