Slightly literary. 纵 here means 'to release / let loose' (as in 纵情 'give free rein to') — so 纵步 is to let your stride loose, take a long bounding step. Compare 箭步 (jiànbù, 'arrow-step', a single explosive lunge) and 大步 (dàbù, plain 'big step').
