百日维新 (Bǎirì Wéixīn): Hundred Days' Reform (1898)

Ran from June 11 to September 21, 1898 (103 days). Emperor Guangxu, advised by Kang Youwei (康有为) and Liang Qichao (梁启超), tried to modernize the Qing state, army, and education. Empress Dowager Cixi launched a coup, put Guangxu under house arrest, and executed six reformers (戊戌六君子).

Also known as 戊戌变法. The name 百日 comes from the reform lasting about a hundred days before Cixi ended it.
