From 冷斋夜话 by Song-dynasty monk Huihong: 'this is exactly what's called telling dreams to a fool (对痴人说梦).' The original sense - telling something genuine to a fool who cannot grasp it - later shifted to 'the fool himself is talking fantasy.'
