mistakes
The first character has two readings. The verb, raising animals, is xù, as here and in 畜养. The noun, the animals themselves, is chù: 牲畜, 家畜.
usage
Seldom stands alone in speech. You mostly meet it inside compounds: 畜牧业 (the livestock sector), 畜牧场 (a stock farm), and the names of agriculture bureaus.
