The long outer guard hairs of the yak are spun into coarse yarn for the iconic black Tibetan nomad tents (黑帐篷). The softer undercoat (牦牛绒) is a cashmere-like fiber — lighter, warmer than sheep wool, and a growing luxury textile export.
