殿试 was the final stage of the 科举 imperial exam system, above 乡试 and 会试. Established in the Song dynasty under Emperor Taizu, the top three finishers were ranked 状元, 榜眼, 探花.

Still used figuratively today for any high-stakes final round, e.g. a company's final interview stage.
