Xindu District of Chengdu is home to 宝光寺 (Baoguang Temple), one of the "Four Great Chan Buddhist Temples of the Yangtze" (长江流域四大禅林), founded in the Tang and famous for its hall of 500 luohan statues.
usage
As a common noun 新都 simply means "new capital" — used in historical writing when a dynasty relocated its seat, e.g. the Ming moving from 南京 to 北京. As a proper noun with tone Xīndū it's the Chengdu district.
