Tips

history
Its full title is 般若波罗蜜多心经, the 'Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom'. The version recited in China is 玄奘's translation of 649, and its line 色即是空,空即是色 'form is emptiness, emptiness is form' is among the best known in Buddhism.
culture
Short enough to learn by heart, it is chanted daily in temples and is the text most often copied out by hand, both as a devotion and as calligraphy practice. In Chinese medicine the same word names the heart meridian, the channel that runs from the heart along the inside of the arm to the little finger.
