Tips

culture
Legend gives him 49 wives and 54 sons, all of whom he outlived. One rationalising reading of his age says early 'years' were 60-day cycles, which would turn his 800 years into about 130 real ones.
history
In the 《论语》 Confucius says 述而不作,信而好古,窃比于我老彭, 'I pass on and do not invent, I trust and love the ancients; privately I compare myself to our Old Peng'. Many commentators take Old Peng to be Peng Zu.
