The poem ends
姑苏城外寒山寺,
夜半钟声到客船, 'beyond the walls of Suzhou, Hanshan Temple; at midnight its bell reaches the traveller's boat'. The temple still rings its bell at midnight on New Year's Eve, and the poem is so well known in Japan that many visitors come from there to hear it.
