娶媳妇

娶媳婦
qǔxífù
verb

Meanings

  1. 1 to take a wife
  2. 2 to get married (of a man)
  3. 3 to take a daughter-in-law (into the family)

Examples

Tā sānshí suì le hái méi qǔ xífù.

Cūn lǐ jīntiān yǒu rénjiā qǔ xífù, tèbié rènào.

Tips

usage
(qǔ) is asymmetric: only men a wife; women (jià) into a family. 媳妇 here means 'wife' (or in older usage 'daughter-in-law' — the family's perspective).
register
Colloquial and slightly rural-flavored. In modern urban speech 结婚 (jiéhūn) 'to marry' is more neutral; 娶媳妇 evokes traditional weddings, banquets, and bringing a bride home.
