history
Founded in 1851 by Hong Xiuquan (洪秀全), a failed exam candidate who believed himself to be Jesus's younger brother after reading Christian tracts. The ensuing civil war against the Qing killed an estimated 20-30 million people - one of the deadliest conflicts in human history - and ended with the fall of Tianjing (Nanjing) in 1864.
