history
玄奘 left Chang'an in 629 and came home in 645 with hundreds of Buddhist texts. At the request of 唐太宗 he described the 138 countries he had visited or heard of, and his disciple 辩机 wrote the account down in 12 scrolls. Archaeologists in India have used it to locate lost Buddhist sites such as Nalanda.
