壶

Top 士 — the indexing radical, here functioning as the lid or knob on top of the pot rather than the scholar-meaning. The traditional 壺 was a single pictograph of a wine jar; the simplified 壶 has been re-analysed into separable parts, with 士 standing in for the lid finial.

Middle 冖 — a horizontal canopy with downward hooks at each end, the cover radical. In 壶 it depicts the shoulder of the pot — the rounded section just below the lid. The simplified character has been redrawn so that learners can read it as 'lid + shoulder + belly,' even though the traditional 壺 was a single jar-shape.

Bottom 业 — a graphic residue forming the belly and rounded base of the pot. Doesn't carry the 'occupation' meaning. The simplified 壶 was redrawn from cursive forms of the traditional 壺, and the bottom happens to land on a recognisable but semantically empty 业 silhouette.
