Many Taiwanese businesspeople invest and set up factories in mainland China.
Tips
culture
Beginning in the 1980s, 台商 became a key category in cross-strait economics. Taiwanese manufacturers (Foxconn 富士康 being the largest) built much of mainland China's electronics and apparel supply chains. Their concentration in cities like 东莞 and 昆山 created entire 台商 communities.
usage
Follows a productive pattern: 港商 ('Hong Kong businessperson'), 美商 ('American businessperson'), 外商 ('foreign business'). Region/country abbreviation + 商 = 'businessperson from there'.
