Ceded to Russia under the 1860 Treaty of Beijing (北京条约), along with much of what is now Primorsky Krai. The Russian name is Уссурийск (Ussuriysk); 双城子 — 'twin-walled town' — survives in Chinese-language histories and irredentist references to lost Qing territory.
