history

Established 1998 by merging the old 劳动部 (Ministry of Labor) with social-insurance functions. In 2008 the State Council reshuffle merged it with the personnel ministry into today's 人力资源和社会保障部 (Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, 人社部). The old name still appears in laws drafted before 2008.
