history

Founded in 1979 by Rong Yiren (荣毅仁), a Shanghai-born industrialist whom Deng Xiaoping tapped to channel overseas Chinese capital back into the opening economy. CITIC became the model for PRC-style conglomerate finance and gave rise to banking, securities, trust, and real-estate arms.
