Famous for the 老人 ('old man on the bridge') story in 《史记·世家》: Huang Shigong tested young Zhang Liang by deliberately dropping his shoe under a bridge, then granted him a military classic after Zhang patiently retrieved it three times. He's been a stock figure for 'mysterious wise master' ever since.
