usage
Contrast 阳历 (solar/Gregorian) with 农历 (agricultural/lunar calendar) or 阴历 (lunar calendar). When a Chinese person asks 你生日几号, always clarify whether they mean 阳历 or 农历.

阳 (sun) + 历 (calendar) = sun-based calendar. The opposite, 阴历, uses 阴 (moon) for the lunar calendar.
