钱塘江潮 (Qiántáng cháo) — a surging tidal wave up to 9m high — is one of the world's largest river bores. Best viewed around the Mid-Autumn Festival (Aug 18 lunar) near Haining, a tradition going back to the Southern Song dynasty.
