Most often appears in fixed compounds: 妙语连珠 (miàoyǔ liánzhū, 'witty remarks like pearls on a string'), 连珠炮 (liánzhūpào, 'rapid-fire'), 连珠箭 (liánzhūjiàn, 'arrows in succession'). Anything that comes one after another with no gaps.

连珠 (Renju in Japanese) is the modern competitive form of 五子棋 (gomoku) — same 19×19 board as Go, win by getting five stones in a row. Standardized in Japan in the 1890s with extra rules to balance black's first-move advantage.
