From Feng Menglong's 《古今小说》 (late Ming): in matters of marriage, the older women of a great household are 见多识广 - they've seen more than the men. A genuine compliment with no irony.

usage

Compliments breadth more than depth - somebody who's been around, met many kinds of people, and learned from it. For deep expertise in one field, 学识渊博 (xuéshí yuānbó) fits better.
