In 1912 he laid out 梅园, a plum-blossom garden on a hillside outside Wuxi, and opened it to the public; it is still one of the city's sights. In 1947 he founded 江南大学 in the city.

His son 荣毅仁 founded CITIC in 1979 and was Vice President of China from 1993 to 1998.
