usage

Rural farming vocabulary. 茬 (chá) is the short stalk left in the ground after the head is cut, and a 茬地 is the field at the awkward stage between harvest and the next planting — perfect for grazing animals or for burning to clear. Compare 麦茬 'wheat stubble', 玉米茬 'corn stubble'.
