Tips

history
Completed in 2006 on Sichuan's Min River, just upstream of the 2,200-year-old Dujiangyan irrigation system. After the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake (M7.9), peer-reviewed papers proposed the reservoir's water load may have triggered or hastened the rupture — the "reservoir-induced seismicity" debate over Zipingpu remains unsettled.
