Wenchuan County in the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan. Best known for the devastating 汶川大地震 of May 12, 2008, a magnitude 7.9/8.0 earthquake that killed roughly 87,000 people and became a national trauma and a landmark event in modern Chinese history. May 12 is now observed as 全国防灾减灾日 (National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day).
