Meishan is famous as the birthplace of the Three Sus (
三苏 Sān Sū) of the Northern Song dynasty: Su Xun (
苏洵 Sū Xún), Su Shi/Dongpo (
苏轼/
东坡 Sū Shì / Dōngpō), and Su Zhe (
苏辙 Sū Zhé) — three of the eight great prose masters of the Tang and Song. The Three Sus' Shrine (
三苏祠 Sān Sū Cí) is the city's signature landmark.
