Meishan is famous as the birthplace of the Three Sus (
三苏) of the Northern Song dynasty: Su Xun (
苏洵), Su Shi/Dongpo (
苏轼/
东坡), and Su Zhe (
苏辙) - three of the eight great prose masters of the Tang and Song. The Three Sus' Shrine (
三苏祠) is the city's signature landmark.
