Tips

culture
相亲 remains very common in China, especially among 剩女 (shèngnǚ, 'leftover women') and 剩男 (shèngnán). Parents sometimes attend 相亲角 (xiāngqīnjiǎo) - matchmaking corners in public parks - to find partners for their children.
usage
相亲 specifically means a meeting arranged by a third party (parents, friends, matchmaker). Meeting someone on a dating app is not 相亲 - that's just 约会 (yuēhuì, a date).
