Tips
history
Panyu is one of the oldest continuously named places in China — established as a county in 214 BCE by the Qin dynasty, it was the capital of the Nanyue Kingdom (南越国) under Zhao Tuo. Today it is a southern district of Guangzhou.
mistakes
番 here is read Pān, not fān. As a placename character it keeps this archaic reading; reading it fānyú is a common tell that a speaker doesn't know the local name.
