Tips

usage
In China's procuratorate system (人民检察院 rénmín jiǎncháyuàn), 检察员 is the standard rank-and-file prosecutor - distinct from the more senior 检察官 (jiǎnchá guān, "procurator / public prosecutor") and 检察长 (jiǎnchá zhǎng, "chief procurator"). Translators often render all three as "prosecutor" in English; choose the level by context. Don't confuse with 检察官, 警察 (jǐngchá, "police officer") or 法官 (fǎguān, "judge").
