Tips

usage
In China's procuratorate system (人民检察院 rénmín jiǎncháyuàn), 检察员 is the standard rank-and-file prosecutor — distinct from the more senior 检察官 (jiǎnchá guān, 'procurator / public prosecutor') and 检察长 (jiǎnchá zhǎng, 'chief procurator'). Translators often render all three as 'prosecutor' in English; choose the level by context. Don't confuse with 检察官, 警察 (jǐngchá, 'police officer') or 法官 (fǎguān, 'judge').
