Engaged in a long polemical feud with Lu Xun (鲁迅) in the late 1920s over the politics of literature — Liang defended 'human-nature' literature against Lu Xun's class-struggle view. After 1949 he lived in Taiwan, where he completed his single-handed 37-year translation of Shakespeare and edited the widely used 《远东辞典》 dictionary.
