Recorded the binomial-coefficient triangle in his 1261 work 《算法》 — nearly four centuries before Blaise Pascal's 1655 treatise. Yang credited an even earlier version to the 11th-century mathematician Jia Xian (), so the figure is sometimes called 三角.
