技工学校

技工学校 (often shortened to 技校 jìxiào) sit below regular high school in the prestige hierarchy and train students for blue-collar trades: welding, machining, auto repair, hairdressing. The Chinese government has been pushing 职业教育 (vocational education) since the 2019 reforms, trying to reduce the stigma that funnels every student toward 高考 and academic college.

Don't confuse 技校 (trade school, under high-school level) with 高职 / 大专 (higher-vocational college, a three-year post-high-school degree). Both are vocational, but different levels in the education ladder.
