Tips

history
Compiled from 1710 under 张玉书 and 陈廷敬 and finished in 1716, it lists 47,035 characters under 214 radicals, a system taken over from the late-Ming dictionaries 字汇 and 正字通. These 214 "Kangxi radicals" still order most dictionaries of traditional characters, and Unicode gives them a block of their own.
culture
People choosing a baby's name or a lucky shop name still count strokes "by the Kangxi Dictionary", that is, in the traditional forms it gives, because name numerology goes by those counts.
