A copper-arsenic pigment developed in Paris in the 1810s. Beloved by Impressionists for its brilliance, but also lethal — used as rat poison and in wallpaper that slowly poisoned its inhabitants. Theories that it contributed to Napoleon's death on St. Helena center on this pigment.
