Xiaogan literally means 'filial piety moves [Heaven]'. Local legend says Dong Yong (
董永) was so devoted to his father that the Jade Emperor sent a heavenly weaver to be his wife — the city was named to commemorate the story. It's one of the few Chinese cities named for a Confucian virtue.
