大业 also names the reign era (
大业, 605-618 CE) of Sui Yangdi (
隋炀帝), during which the Grand Canal was completed but the empire collapsed under heavy corvée. In modern usage
大业 is purely metaphorical — historical/political grand projects, not personal goals.
