Tips

culture
originally meant the paired towers built on each side of a palace or city gate - the gap between them gave the word its name. By extension 城阙 came to stand for the capital itself, especially in Tang poetry. The example sentence is from 王勃's famous farewell poem 《送杜少府之任蜀州》.
