The saying 'where there's a will, there's a way' comes from the Book of the Later Han.
Tips
history
Written by 范晔 (398–445) of the Liu Song dynasty, it covers the Eastern Han, also called 后汉 or Later Han, from AD 25 to 220. Fan Ye wrote the annals and biographies; the treatises were taken later from an earlier history by 司马彪. It is the third of the 二十四史, and with 史记, 汉书 and 三国志 it makes up the 前四史, the four early histories that are read most.
culture
Many chengyu come from it, among them 老当益壮 'old but all the more vigorous', said by the general Ma Yuan, and 车水马龙 'carriages like flowing water, horses like dragons', from Empress Ma's description of the crowds calling at her family's gate.
