Tips

mistakes
The tone on the first syllable decides which word this is. With a third tone, 倒车 is changing from one bus or train to another. With a fourth tone, 倒车 means backing a vehicle up. A sentence about a route takes the third tone, one about a car and a parking space takes the fourth.
usage
The two halves separate when you count the transfers, so two changes of bus is 倒两次车. The same 倒 meaning to switch over turns up in 倒班, to work in shifts.
