Sun Yat-sen University is a top university in Guangzhou.
Tips
history
Founded by Sun Yat-sen (孙中山) in 1924 as 国立广东大学, renamed 国立中山大学 in 1926 after his death. '中山' was Sun's commonly used given name (from his Japanese-era alias 中山樵). Now one of China's top '985' universities; commonly called 中大 (Zhōngdà) by students.
mistakes
Do not confuse with 中山 the city (a prefecture-level city in Guangdong, also named after Sun Yat-sen) or with 中正大学 in Taiwan (named after Chiang Kai-shek, 蒋中正). CC-CEDICT also lists a Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
