Shanghai rolled out mandatory 垃圾分类 (waste sorting) in 2019, splitting trash into four categories: 可回收物 (recyclable), 有害垃圾 (hazardous), 湿垃圾 (wet/kitchen), 干垃圾 (dry/other). 不可回收 is the informal umbrella for the last two.
