Mainland China's hierarchy uses
中级人民法院 (zhōngjí rénmín fǎyuàn) and
高级人民法院 for appeals rather than a court explicitly named
上诉法院. The term
上诉法院 is most often used when discussing common-law systems (the U.S. Court of Appeals, Hong Kong's
上訴法院) or in translated legal text.
