三菱 reads 'three rhombuses' — a direct calque of Japanese
三菱 (Mitsubishi, 'three water-chestnuts'), referring to the three-diamond logo that predates the automotive business. Iwasaki Yatarō founded the parent shipping company in 1870; the diamond mark combines his family's three-leaf crest with the Tosa clan's three rhombuses. Note the pinyin:
菱 is líng, so the whole word is Sānlíng (not Sānléng).
