usage
⺼ is the in-compound form of 肉 (meat/flesh). Visually identical to the moon radical 月 - but in chars about body parts, organs, or anatomy, the 月-shape is actually ⺼ (meat-moon, 肉月). Pedagogically called ròuyuè to distinguish from the real 月 (moon). Never written alone; the standalone form is 肉.
history
Originally 肉 was a pictograph of a slab of meat with marbling lines. When placed inside compound chars, it flattened into the 月-look-alike ⺼. Dictionaries since the Kangxi era have indexed body-part chars under the meat radical even when modern fonts render the piece as moon-shaped 月.
usage
Body/anatomy cue: 肝 (liver), 肺 (lung), 脏 (organ), 肚 (belly), 肌 (muscle), 脸 (face), 胃 (stomach), 胳 (arm), 脚 (foot), 能 (originally a bear). When you see 月 next to a body word, it's actually ⺼.
