儿-suffixed) Beijing colloquial. Three senses, ranked by frequency: (1) figurative 'rookie/newbie', most common today; (2) literal baby bird; (3) old-fashioned slighting term for a young woman, comparable to English 'chick' — avoid this sense in modern speech, it sounds dated and patronizing.
